PTHS Class of 1968 Strickland’s Seafood Social

Despite temperatures in the 90’s our PTHS Class of 1968 gathered last weekend on the patio at Strickland’s Seafood for a social.  While practicing social distancing fourteen classmates enjoyed conversation and delicious seafood.

Attending classmates were Susan Clark Sacharnoski, Becky Lankton Becker, Debbie Schrader Casper, Debra Harned, Sharon Banks Luchesi, Roger and Marilyn Melugin, Bruce Shulman, Mike Jennings, Andra Walls Hurt and Dan Hurt, Janet DeSpain Brotherson, Marther Coker Darnell, Jimmy Toy and Rita Jo Blackford Wilson.

The business meeting was well attended with ten classmates arriving early for it.  There were two main topics that needed attention.

The first topic for discussion was our financial status and a report was given by Becky Lankton Becker.   With all current bills paid we now have about $700 in our bank account.  After some discussion it was decided that we would continue our socials but not purchase the hors d’oeuvres with class funds in order to reduce expenses.  We would also need to depend more on contributions for classmates to pay the social venue rentals and future mailings.

The second topic was our 70th Birthday Party, Puttin’ on the Ritz, scheduled for October 23rd – 24th ,2020.  Last January 6 the Planning Committee met at The Etcetera Coffee House to finalize plans for Puttin’ on the Ritz.  Attendees were Jimmy Toy, Leah Russell Whipple, Darline Dabney, Billy Jaques, Bruce Shulman, Susan Clark Sacharnoski, and Rita Wilson.  One of the major discussion and decision points centered around the ticket cost per person.  Finally, it was decided that based on at least seventy people attending we could charge $40 per person for us to break even on this class event and allow us to pay the advance reservation fees for the Ritz Ballroom and the Old Dusty Dog.

As of last January, our plans and ticket price decisions seemed to be in tune with our classmates wishes.  These decisions were of course Pre-Covid-19.  Who knew?   Now, as of June 20, 2020 there are only eight people registered for our October 2020 event, Puttin’ on the Ritz.    After much discussion last Saturday at the Strickland’s Social it was decided to POSTPONE….NOT CANCEL, our Puttin’ on the Ritz 70th Birthday party until sometime Post-Vaccine in 2021.  The vote for postponement was unanimous.   Our classmates felt that it is important for us to plan future socials in a relaxed and enjoyable environment where we can safely reconnect with each other.

Please check this Class of 1968 website at pths68.com for updates on our Puttin’ on the Ritz, our December 26, 2020 luncheon at the Paducah Country Club and photos from our Strickland Seafood Social.
